Replacement [09/2022 - ]: Procedure
- DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL
- Stop the vehicle on a level place.
- for Front Differential:
- Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the front differential filler plug and gasket.
- Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the front differential drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.
- Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the front differential drain plug.
Torque: 39.2 N.m (400 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf)
- Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the front differential filler plug and gasket.
- for Rear Differential:
- ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL
- Add differential oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.197 in.) from the bottom lip of the differential filler plug hole.
*a 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.197 in.) NOTE:- Too much or too little oil will lead to differential problems.
- After changing the oil, drive the vehicle and then check the oil level again.
Differential oil type and viscosity
Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent
Front differential capacity
1.24 to 1.34 liters (1.32 to 1.12 US qts, 1.10 to 1.17 Imp. qts)
Rear Differential Capacity
Item Standard Differential Oil Capacity w/ Differential Lock 5.46 to 5.56 liters (5.78 to 5.87 US qts, 4.81 to 4.89 Imp. qts) w/o Differential Lock 5.68 to 5.78 liters (6.01 to 6.10 US qts, 5.00 to 5.08 Imp. qts) - for Front Differential:
- Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the front differential filler plug.
Torque: 39.2 N.m (400 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf)
- Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the front differential filler plug.
- for Rear Differential:
- Install a new gasket and the rear axle housing filler plug.
Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf/cm, 36 ft.lbf)
- Install a new gasket and the rear axle housing filler plug.
- Add differential oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.197 in.) from the bottom lip of the differential filler plug hole.
