Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Check for open or short circuit in wiring harness between deceleration sensor and ABS ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  2. Remove ABS ECU, leaving harness connectors connected. Remove deceleration sensor, located behind left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between chassis ground and terminals No. 19 and 7 (GS1 and GS2 circuits) at 26-pin ABS ECU harness connector. See Figure. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, replace ABS ECU.
  3. Measure voltage (backprobe) between chassis ground and terminal No. 5 (GST circuit) at 26-pin ABS ECU harness connector. See Figure. While observing DVOM, turn ignition on. After 1.5 seconds, DVOM should display battery voltage for 0.5 second, and then zero volts. If voltage is as specified, replace deceleration sensor. If voltage is not as specified, replace ABS ECU.
