Diagnosis & Repair

  1. Check current data. Start engine. Read the data of intake manifold absolute pressure signal using Subaru Select Monitor or OBD-II general scan tool. If the value is greater than 130 kPa, go to step  10 . If the value is not greater than 130 kPa, go to next step.
  2. Check input signal for ECM. Measure voltage between ECM connector and chassis ground. See connector (B135), terminal No. 9 and chassis ground in Figure . If voltage is greater than 4.5 volts, go to step  4 . If voltage is not greater than 4.5 volts, go to next step.
  3. Check input signal for ECM. Measure voltage between ECM connector and chassis ground. See connector (B135), terminal No. 9 and chassis ground in Figure . If the voltage changes more than 4.5 volts by shaking harness and connector of ECM while monitoring value with voltage meter, repair poor contact in ECM connector. If the voltage does not change more than 4.5 volts by shaking harness and connector of ECM while monitoring value with voltage meter, contact Subaru Of America (SOA) service. Inspection by DTM is required, probable cause is deterioration of multiple parts.
  4. Check input signal for ECM. Measure voltage between ECM connector and chassis ground. See connector (B135), terminal No. 8 and chassis ground in Figure . If voltage is less than 0.7 volts, go to step  6 . If voltage is not less than 0.7 volts, go to next step.
  5. Using Subaru Select Monitor check input signal for ECM. Read data of atmospheric absolute pressure signal using Subaru Select Monitor. If the value changes more than 1.7 kPa by shaking harness and connector of ECM while monitoring the value with Subaru Select Monitor, repair poor contact in ECM connector. If the value does not change more than 1.7 kPa by shaking harness and connector of ECM while monitoring the value with Subaru Select Monitor, go to next step.
  6. Check harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector. Turn ignition off. Disconnect connector from intake manifold pressure sensor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between intake manifold pressure sensor connector and engine ground. See connector (E21), terminal No. 3 and engine ground in Figure . If voltage is greater than 4.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not greater than 4.5 volts, repair open circuit in harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector.
  7. Check harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector. Turn ignition off. Disconnect connector from ECM. Measure resistance of harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector. See connector (B135), terminal No. 8 and connector (E21), terminal No. 1 in Figure . If resistance is less than 1 ohm, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 1 ohm, repair open circuit in harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector.
  8. Check harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector. Measure resistance of harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector. See connector (B135), terminal No. 19 and connector (E21), terminal No. 2 in Figure . If resistance is less than 1 ohm, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 1 ohm, repair open circuit in harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector.
  9. Check for poor contact in intake manifold pressure sensor connector. If there is poor contact in intake manifold pressure sensor connector, repair poor contact. If there is not poor contact in intake manifold pressure sensor connector, replace intake manifold pressure sensor.
  10. Check harness between ECM and pressure sensor connector. Turn ignition off and Subaru Select Monitor or the OBD-II general scan tool switch "OFF". Disconnect connector from pressure sensor. Turn ignition on and Subaru Select Monitor or the OBD-11 general scan tool switch "ON". Read data of intake manifold absolute pressure signal using Subaru Select Monitor or OBD-II general scan tool. If the value is greater than 130 kPa, repair battery short circuit in harness between ECM and intake manifold pressure sensor connector. If the value is not greater than 130 kPa, replace intake manifold pressure sensor.
