Power Steering Pump: Installation
- Install bracket on engine (if removed). Using 2 wrenches, install hydraulic pipe on pump. Install a new "O" ring on reservoir. Install reservoir on pump.
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Fill reservoir with fluid. Attach negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Slowly turn steering wheel lock-to-lock.
- Repeat procedure until bubbles stop appearing in reservoir Maintain fluid level during this procedure.
- Start and idle engine. Slowly turn steering wheel lock-to-lock. Repeat until bubbles stop appearing in reservoir. Stop engine, and lower vehicle.NOTE: Normally, bubbles will be present after 3 complete right and left turns.
- Check and fill reservoir as necessary. Start engine, and let it idle. Turn steering wheel lock-to-lock. Check for bubbles in reservoir.
- Continue procedure until bubbles stop appearing. If bubbles still appear, stop engine. Let vehicle sit for 1/2 hour or more, and then repeat step 5). Check for leakage at hose and line connections. Repair or replace as necessary.
