Video Entertainment System Remote Control Inoperative

Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics 
DEFINITION: The PLAY, STOP, FF, REW and other buttons on the video remote control do not operate the DVD player. The PLAY, STOP, PAUSE, EJECT and other buttons on the DVD player do operate OK.
1 Did you review the Video Entertainment System Description and Operation? Go to Step 2  Go to Video Entertainment System Description and Operation

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn on the wireless headphones.
  3. Turn off the radio.
  4. Turn on power to the digital video disc (DVD) player.
  5. Load a DVD in the DVD player. Start the DVD. Video audio plays through the vehicle speakers as well as the wireless headphones. The display plays video from the DVD player.
  6. Test the play, pause, stop and eject functions from the button on the face of the DVD player. The DVD player performs the appropriate function.
  7. Test the play, rewind, fast forward, stop and eject functions from the video remote control. The DVD player performs the appropriate function.
Does the system operate normally?		 Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Test the operation of the video entertainment system using a known good remote control.
Is the video entertainment system operation normal?		 Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5 
4 Test and, as needed, replace the batteries in the remote control. If OK, replace the remote control.
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 9  -
5 Test the DVD infrared command serial data circuit for the following conditions:
  • An open
  • High resistance
  • A short to ground
  • A short to voltage

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 9  Go to Step 6 
6 Inspect for poor connections at the following harness connectors:
  • The digital video disc (DVD) player connector
  • The roof console connector

Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 9  Go to Step 7 
7 Replace the roof console. Refer to Overhead Console - VES Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 9  Go to Step 8 
8 Replace the digital video disc (DVD) player. Refer to DVD Player Replacement .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 9  -
9 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?		 System OK Go to Step 3
