Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD system check, recheck if DTC resets.
  2. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Start engine. Use scan tool and monitor for this DTC. If this DTC ran and failed this ignition, go to next step. If this DTC did not fail this ignition, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  3. Turn ignition off. Check ENG CTRL 3 fuse located in underhood fuse block. Replace as necessary. Disconnect HO2S bank 1, sensor 2 harness connector. Connect a test light between HO2S harness connector terminals No. 1 (Orange wire) and No. 2 (Black/White wire). Turn ignition on, with engine off. If test light is pulsing, go to next step. If test light is not pulsing, go to step  5.
  4. Using a DVOM, check voltage between ground and HO2S harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire). If voltage reading is 2-4 volts, check for terminal tightness at connectors. Repair as necessary. If voltage reading is not 2-4 volts, replace ECM.
  5. Connect test light between ground and HO2S harness connector terminal No. 1 (Orange wire). If test light does not illuminate, repair open in circuit (Orange wire) between HO2S harness connector and fuse block. If test light illuminates, check for open in HO2S harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire) and ECM. Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, check for terminal tightness. Repair as necessary. If terminals are okay, replace ECM.
