Preliminary Inspection

Before beginning diagnosis, perform a visual inspection for disconnected or damaged wiring. Check fuses, and replace as necessary. Check for binding or misadjusted cruise control throttle linkage. If visual inspection shows no fault, check operation of electrical brake/clutch switches.

If cruise control operates intermittently, diagnose using test for DTC P1584. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. To verify system operation, use scan tool to operate cruise control cable from idle to 50 percent throttle angle. If correct voltage level is not present from ON/OFF switch on cruise switch input circuit (Gray wire), cruise control system will not be enabled. On A/T models, PCM requires a brake switch transition to occur or cruise will not be enabled. A rolling restart with no brake transition may result in an inoperative cruise control system.

If no problems are found, go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
