DTC P1693: Tachometer Circuit Fault: Testing
- Start engine. If DTC P1693 is not current, problem is intermittent. Check connectors and wiring. If DTC P1693 is current, turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Turn ignition on. If DTC P1693 is not current, go to next step. If DTC P1693 is current, go to step 3).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Natural instrument cluster 18-pin connector. Turn ignition on. If DTC P1693 is not current, check for short to battery voltage on White wire between PCM terminal J1D02 and instrument cluster Natural colored 18-pin connector terminal "K". Repair as necessary. If short does not exist, replace PCM. If DTC P1693 is current, check printed circuit. Repair as necessary. If no problem was found, check tachometer. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RESISTANCE CHECK under COMPONENT TESTS.
- Turn ignition on. Check voltage by backprobing White wire between PCM terminal J1D02 and instrument cluster Natural colored 18-pin connector terminal "K". If battery voltage exists, check PCM connector for clean, tight connection. If no faults are found, replace PCM. If battery voltage does not exist, check for open or short to ground on White wire between PCM terminal J1D02 and instrument cluster Natural colored 18-pin connector terminal "K". Repair as necessary. If no problem is found, check instrument panel connector for clean, tight connection. Check printed circuit. Repair as necessary. If no problem was found, check tachometer. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RESISTANCE CHECK under COMPONENT TESTS.
