Hydraulic System Bleeding

  1. Fill power steering reservoir to top mark on dipstick. Start engine and let idle for a few seconds. Turn ignition off. Check fluid level. Refill as necessary. Repeat procedure until fluid level in reservoir does not drop.
    NOTE: This procedure can drop fluid level in reservoir very quickly. Oil must be added continuously to keep level at maximum mark. Reservoir must not be allowed to run dry.
  2. Turn steering wheel lock-to-lock quickly to let air escape. When piston reaches end of travel, DO NOT pull harder on steering wheel than required or excessive pressure will build up in steering pump.
  3. Observe oil level during bleeding. If oil level still drops, keep adding oil until level remains constant at top mark of dipstick and no more air bubbles appear.
  4. When engine is turned off, oil level in must not rise by more than .39" (10.0 mm). If it does rise further than this, air is still present. Bleed system again.
