Removal & Installation: Clutch: Removal

  1. Remove negative battery cable, deck lid, louvered panels and upper rear engine support bolt. Install Engine Support Fixture (J-28467). Raise vehicle and remove both rear tires. Disconnect slave cylinder and shift cables.
  2. Remove EGR outlet pipe from exhaust manifold. Disconnect parking brake cable from calipers and body. Disconnect lower ball joints and tie rods. Disconnect drive axle shafts from transaxle and remove left axle shaft.
  3. Remove rubber skirts from splash shields. Remove rear transaxle bracket bolts. Remove engine mount nuts from front engine mount cradle. Remove crossover pipe to converter bolts. Disconnect sensor wire.
  4. Remove cradle bolts and cradle from engine. Support cradle on adjustable stand. Remove crossover pipe heat shield and crossover pipe. Secure transaxle jack under transaxle and remove engine-to-transaxle bolts. Remove clutch inspection plate cover.
  5. Remove lower engine bolt studs. Remove coolant pipe from stud. Lower transaxle. Remove right axle driveshaft while lowering transaxle from vehicle. Index mark pressure plate to flywheel for installation reference.
  6. Remove pressure plate attaching bolts one turn at a time until spring pressure is relieved. Remove pressure plate and clutch disc.
