DTC P0443: EVAP Purge Solenoid Circuit
NOTE:
For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
NOTE:
EVAP purge solenoid operation is monitored when ignition is on and engine is running. EVAP purge solenoid may also be referred to as proportional purge solenoid. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) if actual state of EVAP purge solenoid does not match the intended state when requested to operate by PCM. Possible causes are: defective EVAP purge solenoid, defective PCM, or defective connectors or wiring.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If global good trip counter is displayed and equal to zero, go to next step. If global good trip counter is not displayed and equal to zero, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect connector at EVAP purge solenoid. EVAP purge solenoid is located below driver's side strut tower near steering gear. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between EVAP purge solenoid terminals. If resistance is 13-15 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 13-15 ohms, replace EVAP purge solenoid. Perform TEST VER-5A .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. PCM is located in engine compartment, between air cleaner and radiator. Check resistance of Dark Blue wire between EVAP purge solenoid and PCM connector terminal No. 70. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Dark Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-5A .
- Check resistance between EVAP purge solenoid Dark Blue wire and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Dark Blue wire between EVAP purge solenoid and PCM. Perform TEST VER-5A . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
- Reconnect PCM connector. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, actuate EVAP purge solenoid. Using voltmeter, check voltage at EVAP purge solenoid Pink/Black wire. If voltage switches from zero to 7 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-5A . If voltage does not switch from zero to 7 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. Check resistance of Pink/Black wire between EVAP purge solenoid and PCM connector terminal No. 68. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Pink/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-5A .
- Check resistance between EVAP purge solenoid Pink/Black wire and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Pink/Black wire between EVAP purge solenoid and PCM. Perform TEST VER-5A . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-5A .
- Using scan tool, check for DTCs with EVAP purge solenoid actuated. Wiggle wiring harness and connectors from EVAP purge solenoid to PCM. EVAP purge solenoid is located below driver's side strut tower near steering gear. PCM is located in engine compartment, between air cleaner and radiator. Check FREEZE FRAME data on scan tool to determine the conditions when DTC was set. Attempt to duplicate the conditions for added diagnosis. If no other possible causes exist for causing the DTC, it is assumed that there is an intermittent problem with the wiring harness and connectors. Inspect all connectors and wiring harness for any possible problems. Also, check for related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs).
