Power Transistor (Colt Vista, Galant, Montero, Pickup & Ram-50)

  1. Disconnect power transistor connectors. Using a DVOM, connect positive ohmmeter lead to terminal No. 2 and negative lead to terminal No. 3. See Fig 1 . Ensure there is no continuity.
  2. Using a 1.5-volt dry cell battery, connect positive end of 1.5-volt battery to power transistor terminal No. 1 and negative end to terminal No. 2. DVOM should now read continuity at power transistor terminals No. 2 and No. 3. Replace power transistor if it does not test as described. See Fig 2 .
