DTC 16, Enable Relay Coil Circuit Open: Notes

Ignition voltage is supplied to ABS enable relay. EBCM energizes pull-in coil by completing ground circuit for relay. Magnetic field created will close enable relay contacts to supply battery voltage to EBCM, providing power to motors and solenoids. DTC 16 can only be set after DTC 14 has been set. This test checks for open in enable relay coil circuit. An open in this circuit will prevent enable relay from being energized and voltage from reaching motors and solenoids. ABS is disabled and ABS warning light is turned on.

Determines if EBCM is capable of controlling relay.
Checks for voltage at pull-in coil of enable relay.
Checks for continuity through pull-in coil of enable relay.
Verifies integrity of relay control circuit.
Checks for intermittents in wiring or connectors.
