Parking Brake

NOTE:
Adjustment of parking brake cable is necessary whenever the rear brake cables have been loosened or disconnected. Adjust parking brake if firm parking brake pedal feel cannot be achieved with less than 4 full strokes of parking brake pedal.
- Apply service brake with a pedal force of approximately 150 lbs. and release. Fully apply parking brake using 125 lbs. of force on last pedal stroke. Apply and release parking brake pedal using the same procedure.
- Ensure that parking brake is fully released by turning ignition ON and observing brake warning lamp. Lamp should be off. Raise and support vehicle.
- Check that parking brake levers are against caliper stops. If not against stops, check for binding in rear brake cables. Tighten parking brake cable adjuster until either left or right lever begins to move away from stop.
- Loosen adjustment lever returns to stop. After adjustment, ensure that both levers are against caliper stops. Operate parking brake several times to check adjustment. A firm pedal feel should be possible with less than 3 1/2 pedal strokes.
