Diagnostic Procedure 2, Check Terminal "S" Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Nissan Titan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the fuel pump fuse. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
  2. Crank or start the engine (if possible) until the fuel pressure is released.
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4. Disconnect starter motor connector F28. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  5. Check voltage between starter motor connector F28 terminal No. 1 (White/Red wire) and ground using a digital circuit tester. With ignition switch in "START", battery voltage should exist. See Fig 1. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check the following:
    • 40-amp fusible link (letter "M" , located in fuse and fusible link box).
    • Ignition switch.
    • Starter relay (within IPDM E/R).
    • Harness for open or short.
  6. Connect starter motor connector F28. Check voltage between starter motor connector F28 terminal No. 1 (White/Red wire) and battery positive terminal using a digital tester. With ignition switch in "START" position, voltage should be less than 1.0 volt. See Fig 1. Starter motor terminal No. 1 circuit is okay. Further inspection is necessary. Refer to WORK FLOW . If voltage is not as specified, check harness between the battery and the starter motor "S" terminal for poor continuity.
