Test G-1: Windshield Wiper Inoperative

  1. Check input signals from windshield wiper switch. See INPUT SIGNAL CHECK FUNCTION  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If input signal test shows a fault, check windshield wiper input circuit. See TEST O-18: WINDSHIELD & REAR WIPER SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECKS  . If input signal test is okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect wiper motor 5-pin connector. Using fused jumper wires, apply battery voltage to wiper motor connector terminal No. 3 and ground wiper motor connector terminal No. 5. See Figure . Wiper should operate at low speed. Go to next step.
  3. Apply battery voltage to wiper motor connector terminal No. 4 and ground wiper motor connector terminal No. 5. Wiper should operate at high speed. If wiper operates as specified, go to next step. If wiper does not operate as specified, replace wiper motor.
  4. Measure resistance between ground and wiper motor connector terminal No. 5 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, repair Black wire between wiper motor and ground.
  5. Remove front-ECU from engine compartment relay box. Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Measure voltage between ground and front-ECU 17-pin connector A-09X terminal No. 9. See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace front-ECU and retest wiper operation.
  6. Check front-ECU connector A-09X for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair connector as necessary and retest wiper operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  7. Check for open in Blue wire between wiper motor connector terminal No. 1 and junction block. Check for open in Blue/Black wire between junction block and ignition switch. Repair appropriate wire as necessary and retest wiper operation.
