DTC 43 - Ignition Coil No. 1 Primary Circuit Failure

NOTE: For component terminal identification, see TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section.
  1. Using scan tool, perform ACTUATOR TEST No. 10 (MFI relay). If MFI relay operation can be heard, go to next step. If MFI relay operation cannot be heard, repair MFI relay circuit.
  2. Disconnect ignition coil connector. Connect DVOM between ignition coil connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Red wire) and ground. Go to next step.
NOTE: MFI relay is cycled on and off every 1.4 seconds.
  3. Using scan tool, perform ACTUATOR TEST No. 10 (MFI relay). If battery voltage exists when MFI relay is on, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist when MFI relay is on, check wiring harness and junction connectors between MFI relay and ignition coil connector.
  4. Reconnect ignition coil connector. Disconnect PCM connector. Connect DVOM between PCM connector terminal No. 21 (Black/Blue wire) and ground. Go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, perform ACTUATOR TEST No. 10 (MFI relay). If battery voltage exists, check PCM connector. If PCM connector is okay, replace PCM. If battery voltage does not exist, check ignition coil connector and wiring harness between PCM and injector connector.
