SUBJECT
Transport Mode Switching Device: TMSD
SITUATION
Distribution of the following tool will be through the Automatic Tool Shipment Program. Additional tools may be purchased through your Regional Distribution Center (RDC).
The Transport Mode Switching Device enables an in-stock vehicle to have the PDI performed but the vehicle placed easily and quickly back into Transport Mode. The TMSD may also be used on Certified Pre-Owned vehicles as a method to prolong battery life. Do not use this tool on a customer-owned vehicle! A vehicle stored in Transport Mode has 50% less battery standby consumption, resulting in longer periods between battery charging sessions.
If the vehicle is placed in Transport Mode, the Solar Charger (81 39 2 353 004) or the Battery Indicator (81 37 2 317 996) must be connected to the battery via the engine compartment B+ and B- posts. In Transport Mode, the OBD connector shuts off after approximately four minutes. In the 3rd quarter of 2014, centers received a number of alligator clip cables with the battery indicator Automatic Tool Shipment. This shipment is complete and will not be repeated. Additional alligator clip cables are available under P/N 81 39 2 338 714. See below for suggested routing for the Solar Charger and Battery Indicator cables.
- If the vehicle is placed in transport mode and the vehicle battery voltage drops below 12 volts (approximately 30% State of Charge), the "Replace Battery" message will be displayed in the instrument cluster. The message will only be removed with the registration of a new battery.
- Refer to SI M65 03 14 for information regarding how to unlock a vehicle in transport mode.

- This plugs directly into the vehicle's OBD connector.
Operating Instructions

- Plug the TMSD into the vehicle's OBD connector.
- The TMSD will make the requested change automatically.
- Transport Mode "ON" is successful when you hear two beeps.
- Transport Mode "OFF" is successful when you hear three beeps.
- The TMSD will beep continuously if Transport Mode was not fully turned "OFF" (deactivated).
- Start the engine and turn the steering wheel fully to the left, then fully to the right, after deactivating Transport Mode to avoid a steering warning light.
