SUBJECT

CBS Service Maintenance Substitute Checklist

SITUATION

Occasionally, the Key Reader or Service Advisory Module (SAM) software is inoperative. In these situations, the customized Service Maintenance Checklist printout generated by SAM will not print for vehicles with Condition Based Service (CBS).

For more information on CBS, please refer to SI M00 03 07 .

CORRECTION

A Service Maintenance Substitute Checklist,  MD20-056, has been developed for MINI automobiles that utilize CBS. In case the Key Reader or SAM is inoperative, the Checklist must be utilized to document any service performed to the vehicle  .

When completed, the Service Maintenance Substitute Checklist must be signed by an authorized center Service Department Representative and filed in the vehicle's history folder at the center. The customer should also receive a signed copy of the completed Checklist.

In addition, the Evidence of Maintenance Work section of the Service and Warranty Information booklet must be completed. This booklet stays with the vehicle for the customer's record.

For the specific Maintenance Requirements, please refer to the following Service Information:

SI Model Year Model
M00 02 07 2007 MINI Cooper Hardtop versions (R56)
M00 06 07 2008 R56 and Clubman versions (R55)

PROCEDURE FOR USING THE SERVICE MAINTENANCE SUBSTITUTE CHECKLIST

  1. Service Advisor
    1. Download and print out the Checklist MD20-056.
    2. Take the Checklist to the vehicle during the service check-in and repair order write-up process.
    3. Complete the information in the upper section: Customer Name, Chassis Number, Model, Mileage, Repair Order (RO) number, Service Advisor name, and Date.
    4. Access the "Due-in" mileage and/or month/year information for each serviceable item, using the vehicle's CBS display in the tachometer.
      • Sit in the car, close the door and turn the ignition on (KL15).
      • Press and hold the button at the end of the turn signal lever until the functions change. Push the button briefly until "Set/Info" appears. Press and hold the button until "Service Info" appears. Press briefly for the various service items.
      • The upper display in the tachometer (1) will be illuminated with a Service Item symbol (example: an oil can is the designation for Oil Service). The display also shows different background colors to indicate the relative time due for the service.
      • The lower display in the tachometer (2) will indicate the remaining time or mileage left for that Service Item (example: 14000). Pressing the BC (Board Computer) button on the end of the turn signal lever repeatedly will allow the display to scroll through all of the Condition Based Service items.

    6. Make this Checklist available to the Service Technician.
  2. Service Technician
    1. Perform the service on items listed in Column C only when the corresponding Column B is noted "R", "D" or "OD".
    2. Sign the Checklist at the bottom after completing each of the required service items.
    3. Reset the CBS using either the instrument cluster (refer to the procedure below), DISplus/GT1 or 3G equipment.
    4. Upon completion of all required service items, return the Checklist to the Service Advisor or Service Manager.
  3. Service Advisor or Service Manager
    1. Review that all required services are correctly performed and the Checklist is properly completed.
    2. Stamp, sign and date the Checklist once everything is in proper order and has been satisfactorily completed.

A copy of the completed Checklist should be given to the customer. State and Federal statutes require a properly completed copy of the Checklist to be retained in the vehicle history file, attached to the applicable Repair Order.

  4. 04 Consumption

To exit Test Functions, remove the remote control from the ignition lock and repeat steps 1 through 4, above.
