	Remove
1	Remove center engine compartment lining.	Model 293	AR61.20-P-1105EQ
		Model 205, 253	AR61.20-P-1105LW
		Model 213, 238	AR61.20-P-1105LWE
2	Remove tie rod (1).		AR46.40-P-0200LW
3	Remove clamp (3).
4	Remove clamp (4).	Hose clamp pliers	Fig 1
5	Unscrew counternut from inner tie rod (2).	Mark position of counternut.
6	Detach boot (5) from inner tie rod (2).
	Check
7	Check toothed rack for corrosion.	If the toothed rack is corroded. ↓ Replace rack-and-pinion steering.

8	Check water drain valve in steering gear.	Model 205, 213, 238 except code M005 (4MATIC)	AR46.20-P-0005LW
9	Check axial joint of inside tie rod (2) for play.	If the axial joint of the inner tie rod (2) is worn out. ↓ Replace inner tie rod (2) with axial joint.

	Install
10	Clean contact surfaces of the boot (5) on the inner tie rod (2) and on the rack-and-pinion steering and coat lightly with Renolit.	Renolit CX-FO 20	*BR00.45-Z-1100-06A
11	Position boot (5) for inner tie rod (2).
12	Screw on counternut on inner tie rod (2).	Observe marking.
13	Install clamp (4).	Position clamp (4) as shown.

14	Install new clamp (3).	The clamping action for the clamp (3) must face downwards.
15	Install tie rod (1).		AR46.40-P-0200LW
16	Install center engine compartment lining.	Model 293	AR61.20-P-1105EQ
		Model 205, 253	AR61.20-P-1105LW
		Model 213, 238	AR61.20-P-1105LWE
17	Perform chassis alignment.	Model 238	AR40.20-P-0200LWO
		Model 205, 213, 253, 293	AR40.20-P-0200LW
