Task 

To supply filtered fuel under all operating conditions in sufficient quantities and under sufficient pressure to the inline injection pump (10).

Function 

During engine starts and when the engine is running, the fuel reaches the suction gallery of the inline injection pump (10) via the following components:

• Fuel tank (80)
• Fuel heat exchanger (60)
• Fuel prefilter (70/1)
• Electrohydraulic shutoff actuator (IFI [ERE]) (Y1/1)
• Fuel pump (13)
• Main fuel filter (70/2)
• Electrohydraulic shutoff actuator (IFI [ERE]) (Y1/1)
• Inline injection pump (10)

Excess fuel pumped by the fuel pump (13) flows from the suction gallery of the inline injection pump (10) through the overflow valve (15) into the fuel return line (90/3). Excess fuel from the injector nozzles (50) likewise ends up in the return line (90/3) which carries it back to the fuel tank (80) unpressurized. This circulation provides for a steady supply of relatively cool fuel to the inline injection pump (10).
