Test B: No Communication With SCIL Module

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting Control (SCIL) module harness connector C288 (26-pin connector). SCIL module is located behind passenger's side of instrument panel, to right of glove box. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 14 (Black/Light Blue wire) at SCIL module harness connector C288. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire.
  2. Disconnect SCIL module harness connector C287 (26-pin connector). Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (Black wire) at SCIL module harness connector C287. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  3. Disconnect SCIL module harness connector C289 (16-pin connector). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminals No. 11 (Dark Blue/Light Green wire), No. 14 (Red/Orange wire), No. 15 (White/Light Green wire) and No. 26 (Light Blue/Red wire) at SCIL module harness connector C287. See Figure & 33. Also measure voltage at terminals No. 16 (Brown/Orange wire), No. 17 (Red/Yellow wire) and No. 18 (Black/Pink wire) at SCIL module harness connector C288. Also measure voltage at terminals No. 1 (Tan wire), No. 4 (Red/Orange wire), No. 5 (Brown/White wire) and No. 6 (Orange/Black wire) at SCIL module harness connector C289. If battery voltage exists at all designated terminals, a communication network problem exists. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If battery voltage does not exist, repair appropriate fuse or wiring circuit between fuse in appropriate fuse box to appropriate SCIL module harness connector. For terminal number, wire color and fuse application, see FUSE & WIRE APPLICATION table.
