Wireless Door Lock Control System - Diagnosis: Pre-Check

  1. WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
    1. This system is a convenient system for locking and unlocking all the doors at a distance. The wireless control system has the following features:
      • In this system, the door control receiver performs the code identification process and the multiplex network body ECU operates the door lock control. A serial data link is provided for communication between the door control receiver and the multiplex network body ECU.
      • w/o Power back door:

A key-integrated type transmitter is used and it contains the following 3 switches: the door lock switch, door unlock switch and panic switch.

      • w/ Power back door:

A key-integrated type transmitter is used and it contains the following 3 switches: the door lock (panic) switch, door unlock switch and power back door switch.

      • A power window down function and a sliding roof (standard type only) open function are used in the wireless door lock control system.
      • A LED (Light Emitting Diode) is mounted on the transmitter to show if the battery is discharged.
    2. The wireless door lock control system has the following functions:
      FUNCTION OUTLINE

      Function Outline
All door lock operation Pressing LOCK switch locks all doors
All doors unlock operation (2-step unlock operation) Pressing UNLOCK switch twice within 3 seconds unlocks all doors after driver's door is unlocked
Power back door open/close operation (w/ Power back door) Holding down power back door switch for longer than about 1 second opens or closes back door
Power window and sliding roof (standard type only) open operation Holding down UNLOCK switch for longer than about 3 seconds opens all power windows and power sliding roof
Answer-back operation Hazard lamps flash once when doors are locked and flash twice when doors are unlocked to inform that operation has been completed
Wireless door lock buzzer sounds once when doors are locked and sounds twice when doors are unlocked to inform that operation has been completed
When transmitter is used for opening/closing power back door or for opening a power window, this function causes the buzzer to sound (once for power window, twice for power back door) to inform that operation has been completed
Panic alarm operation (w/o Power back door) Holding down the PANIC switch sets off theft deterrent alarm (the horn sounds, headlamps, taillamps and hazard lamps flash)
Panic alarm operation (w/ Power back door) Holding down the LOCK switch for longer than about 2.5 seconds sets off theft deterrent alarm (the horn sounds, headlamps, taillamps and hazard lamps flash)
Automatic lock function If none of doors are opened within 30 seconds after they are unlocked by wireless door lock remote control, all doors will lock again automatically
Repeat function If a door is not locked in response to locking operation of transmitter, body ECU will output a lock signal after 1 second
Illuminated entry function When all doors are locked, pressing door unlock switch causes interior lights to illuminate simultaneously with unlocking operation
Security function Sends an operation signal as a rolling code
Door ajar warning function If any door is open or ajar, pressing LOCK switch will cause wireless door buzzer to sound for about 10 seconds
Transmitter recognition code registration function Enables registering (writing and storing) of 4 types of transmitter recognition codes in EERPOM that is built into body ECU
Self-diagnosis If there is a malfunction in system, body ECU sets DTC in its memory
  2. DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
    1. Description
      1. Data of the system can be read in the Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3) of the vehicle.

Therefore, when the system seems to be malfunctioning, use the hand-held tester to check for a malfunction and repair it.

    2. Inspect the DLC3.

      HINT:

The vehicle's ECM uses ISO 9141-2 communication protocol.

The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with SAE J1962 and matches the ISO 9141-2 format.

      TERMINAL CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
7 (Bus + line) - 5 (Signal ground) During communication Pulse generation
4 (Chassis ground) - Body ground Constant Below 1 Ω
5 (Signal ground) - Body ground Constant Below 1 Ω
      16 (B+) - Body ground Constant 10 to 14 V

      HINT:

If the screen displays UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE after you have connected the cable of the hand-held tester to the DLC3, turned the ignition switch ON and used the hand-held tester, the problem may be on the vehicle side or tester side.

      • If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the original vehicle.
      • If communication is still impossible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem is probably in the tester itself, so consult the Service Department listed in the tester's instruction manual.
    3. Check the battery voltage.

      Standard: 11 to 14 V

If the voltage is below 11 V, replace the battery before proceeding.

  3. CHECK DTC
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Read the DTC by following the prompts on the tester screen.

      HINT:

Refer to the hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.

  4. CLEAR DTC
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Erase the DTCs following the prompts on the tester screen.

      HINT:

Refer to the hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.

  5. USING HAND-HELD TESTER
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Monitor the ECU data by following the prompts on the tester screen.

      HINT:

The hand-held tester has a "Snapshot" function which records the monitored data.

Refer to the hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.

  6. DATA LIST

    HINT:

Using the DATA LIST displayed on the hand-held tester, you can read the value of the switch, sensor, actuator, etc. without parts removal. Reading the DATA LIST as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to shorten the labor time.

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Read the DATA LIST according to the display on the tester.
