3.6L, 3.0L 4X2

CAUTION:

The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) is centered to the vehicles steering system. Failure to keep the system and steering column module centered and locked/inhibited from rotating can result in SCCM damage.

  1. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position with the steering wheel centered and locked with a steering wheel lock  .
  2. Drain or siphon the power steering system.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. Remove the front skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FRONT, REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the steering shaft coupler pinch bolt (2) and disconnect the coupler (1) from the steering shaft (3).

  6. Disconnect the pressure line (1), and the return line (2) at the gear (3).
  7. Remove the front tires and wheels.
  8. Remove the (EHPS) electric hydraulic power steering assembly and bracket. Refer to PUMP, REMOVAL .
  9. Remove the RH shock. Refer to SHOCK ABSORBER, SUSPENSION, REMOVAL .
  10. Remove the outer tie rod ends. Refer to END, TIE ROD, REMOVAL .

  11. Remove the steering gear retaining nuts/bolts (2).

  12. Lift and rotate the steering gear (2) rearward with the steering shaft (3) under the oil pan (1). Remove the steering gear (2) through the RH wheel area.

  13. Lift and rotate the steering gear (1) as necessary to remove from behind the knuckle/rotor assembly (2) of the RH wheel area.
