Rear Suspension: Description
The rear suspension system consist of two tapered, multi-leaf springs and dual action, hydraulic shock absorbers. A stabilizer bar is also utilized with the rear suspension system on the Cherokee vehicles. The hydraulic shock absorbers are designed to dampen vehicle body movement. The top of the rear shock absorbers is attached to the crossmember. The bottom of the rear shock absorbers is attached to the axle shaft tube bracket. Rubber bushings are inserted in the attaching eyes to dampen road shock and noise. All Jeep vehicles are equipped with frame mounted jounce bumpers located at the rear of the vehicle. The bumpers are attached to the underside of the frame rail/frame and are positioned above and in-line with the axle tubes.
