Test 43A - Diagnosing Door Ajar Circuit (Liftgate)

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Ensure liftgate is aligned properly. Align or adjust liftgate as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If liftgate is aligned properly, go to next step.
  2. Close liftgate. Turn ignition on. Using DRB, read liftgate ajar switch status. If DRB does not display GATE AJAR:OPEN, go to step 7). If DRB displays GATE AJAR:OPEN, go to next step.
  3. Open liftgate. Using DRB, read gate ajar switch status. If DRB displays GATE AJAR:CLOSED, system is operating properly. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If DRB does not display GATE AJAR:CLOSED, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect liftgate ajar switch connector. Connector is located at bottom of liftgate behind trim panel. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If connector is okay, go to next step.
  5. Connect a jumper wire between liftgate ajar sense circuit (Tan/Black wire) at liftgate ajar switch connector and ground. If DRB displays GATE AJAR:CLOSED, replace liftgate ajar switch. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If DRB does not display GATE AJAR:CLOSED, go to next step.
  6. Gain access to Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located behind center console. Connect a jumper wire between liftgate ajar sense circuit (Tan/Black wire) at Natural BCM connector terminal No. 4 and ground. If DRB displays GATE AJAR:CLOSED, repair open in Tan/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If DRB does not display GATE AJAR:CLOSED, replace BCM. Perform TEST VER-1B  .
  7. Disconnect liftgate ajar switch connector. Connector is located at bottom of liftgate behind trim panel. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If connector is okay, go to next step.
  8. If DRB displays GATE AJAR:OPEN, replace liftgate ajar switch. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If DRB does not display GATE AJAR:OPEN, go to next step.
  9. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Natural Body Control Module (BCM) connector. BCM is located behind center console. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If connector is okay, go to next step.
  10. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of liftgate ajar sense circuit (Tan/Black wire) at Natural BCM connector terminal No. 4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform TEST VER-1B  .
