DTC P0045 (K20C1) (2017 2018 2019)
DTC P0045: Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Circuit Malfunction
General Description
The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the turbocharger wastegate control actuator circuit for electrical malfunctions. The described circuit check will detect short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, and overtemperature failures. If the PCM detects a short, an open, or an over temperature in turbocharger wastegate control actuator circuit, a DTC is stored.

[ ]: HDS Parameter
Malfunction Threshold
- Short circuit to power
The turbocharger wastegate control actuator output current is equal to 3 A for at least 0.5 second.
- Short circuit to ground
The turbocharger wastegate control actuator output voltage is less than 2.8 V to 3.2 V for at least 0.5 second.
- Open
The turbocharger wastegate control actuator output voltage is greater than 2.8 V to 3.2 V and less than 4.8 V to 5.3 V for at least 0.5 second.
- Over temperature
The turbocharger wastegate control actuator output temperature is equal to greater than a set temperature for at least 0.5 second.
Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR1 line short to ground
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR1 line open
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line short to ground
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line open
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR1 line short to turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line
- PCM internal circuit failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
None.
With the HDS
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed [Engine Speed] at 3, 000 rpm without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.
- Select the Electric Waste Gate in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
