2012 Model

NOTE: Before performing symptom troubleshooting, check for powertrain DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  1. Check the No. 30 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES  -Go to step 2.

NO  -Replace the fuse and recheck. If the fuse blow again, repair the short to ground on the No. 30 (10 A) fuse circuit. ■

  2. Remove the fan control relay from the auxiliary under-hood relay box, and test it (see POWER RELAY TEST ).

    Is the relay OK?

    YES  -Go to step 3.

NO  -Replace the fan control relay. ■

  3. Check for continuity between fan control relay 5P socket terminal No. 2 and body ground.

    Is there continuity?

    YES  -Go to step 4.

NO  -Check for an open in the wire between the fan control relay and body ground. If the wire is OK, check for poor ground at G201. ■

  4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  5. Measure the voltage between fan control relay 5P socket terminal No. 5 and body ground.

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES  -Go to step 6.

NO  -Repair an open in the wire between under-dash fuse/relay box connector terminal D7 and the condenser fan control relay 5P socket terminal No. 5. ■

  6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  7. Connect the HDS to the DLC (see HOW TO USE THE HDS (HONDA DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM) ).
  8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  9. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the PCM. If it does not communicate, troubleshoot the DLC circuit (see DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ).
  10. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, then turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
NOTE: This step must be done to protect the PCM from damage.
  11. Disconnect PCM connector A (49 P).
  12. Check for continuity between fan control relay 5P socket terminal No. 3 and PCM connector terminal A5.

    Is there continuity?

YES  -Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see PCM UPDATE ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see SUBSTITUTING THE PCM ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM (see PCM REPLACEMENT ). ■

NO  -Repair an open in the wire between fan control relay 5P socket terminal No. 3 and PCM connector terminal A5. ■
