ISSUE & TIP

My tip applies to the installation of brake rotors on Hondas or other vehicles with rotors that fit over the hub. I have found that some shops install new brake rotors on hubs that have a rusty buildup on the hub mating surface. This almost always results in a customer complaint.

The rust prevents the rotor from fitting flush on the hub, and a brake pulsation or other brake problems often result. Then the same shop ends up resurfacing a brand new rotor with an on the car lathe to try to eliminate the pulsation that they have created.

We simply wire wheel the hubs to remove all of the rust prior to installing the new rotors. This greatly reduces the chances for excessive runout on the new rotor and makes resurfacing the new rotor unnecessary. I've found that this method works about 95 percent of the time.
