Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 5

This step simulates pressing and releasing a properly functioning traction control switch.

  2. 6

The traction control switch may be damaged if the traction control switch signal circuit is shorted to voltage.

  3. 7

This step tests if the ignition 1 voltage circuit can supply adequate power to the traction control switch.

  4. 8

This step tests if the EBCM is commanding the traction off indicator OFF.

IMPORTANT:

Do not disconnect the traction control switch harness connector during this step.

  1. Access the traction control switch harness connector. Refer to Electronic Traction Control Switch Replacement .
  2. While observing the Traction Control Enabled status on the scan tool, backprobe the traction control switch harness connector with a test lamp connected to a good ground in order to momentarily contact the traction control switch signal circuit. Refer to Probing Electrical Connectors in Wiring Systems.
Does the Traction Control Enabled status change?
Go to Step 12  Go to Step 6
6  Test the traction control switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing , and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 15  Go to Step 13
7
IMPORTANT:

If the ignition is ON for more than 10 seconds, the EBCM sets DTC C0283.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the traction control switch harness connector. Refer to Electronic Traction Control Switch Replacement .
  3. Connect a test lamp between the ignition 1 voltage circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 14
