Test A: No Communication With Parking Aid Module

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located beneath instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, perform Parking Aid Module (PAM) self-test. If DTC B1299 is not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1299 is retrieved, go to step  4 .
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PAM 26-pin harness connector, located behind right rear quarter panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PAM harness connector terminal No. 1 (Red/Black wire). See Fig 1 . If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Black wire between PAM and central junction box. Central junction box is located behind left side of instrument panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector terminal No. 3 (Black wire) at PAM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair module communications. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between PAM and ground point. Ground point is located on left "B" pillar. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PAM 26-pin harness connector, located behind right rear quarter panel. Measure resistance between ground and PAM harness connector terminal No. 1 (Red/Black wire). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or more, go to step  2 . If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Black wire between PAM and central junction box. Central junction box is located behind left side of instrument panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
