Description & Operation

The driver 6-way power seat provides horizontal, vertical and tilt adjustments. System consists of driver seat regulator control switch, driver seat motor assembly, vertical and horizontal screw drives and gear mechanism, housing assembly and necessary wiring. Seat regulator control switch is mounted on outside seat trim panel. Power seat circuits are protected by fuse No. 16 (30-amp) located in Central Junction Box (CJB). CJB is located behind left side of instrument panel, near left kick panel.

Horizontal movement is controlled by a transmission, lead screw and motor attached to the movable section of the track. Vertical drive unit is located on left side of the movable track. Vertical operation energizes center and rear armatures and vertical drive units move seat up or down. In tilt operation, armatures move front or rear vertical drive screws to adjust seat. The regulator/motor unit is serviced as an assembly.

Driver side air bags are attached to seat backrest frame. Front seat backrest trim covers installed with side air bags cannot be repaired. A new seat backrest trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is okay. If a side air bag is deployed, replace seat back pad, trim cover and side air bag module. The driver outboard seat belt buckle and pretensioner are secured to front seat assembly on seat track. This allows front seat belt buckle end to move with front seat. The seat belt and buckle assembly pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device that removes excess webbing from seat belt system. The seat belt and buckle assembly pretensioner uses the same crash sensor system as air bag restraint system.
