Test C: HCU Pump Motor Circuit Open
DTC C1096 is generated when battery voltage is not detected when it is expected. Possible contributing conditions include an open in motor winding or circuit, defective drive circuit in ABCM, and connector terminals damaged or backed out.
- Check Fault Repeatability
Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES . Perform DRIVE CYCLE TEST . Retrieve DTCs. If DTC C1096 exists, go to next step. If DTC C1096 does not exist, check for possible intermittent condition. If different DTC is retrieved, see DTC TEST INDEX table. If SYSTEM PASS is obtained, go to step 5) . - Check Pump Motor Operation
Turn ignition off. Disconnect HCU connector C114 (2 terminal connector). Using jumper wires, apply battery power across terminals of connector C2 (component side). See Fig 1 . If pump motor operates, go to next step. If pump motor does not operate, replace HCU. Go to step 5) . - Check Pump Motor Drive Circuit 906 (Red/Yellow Wire) For Open
Turn ignition off. Install breakout box. Using a DVOM, check resistance between breakout box pin No. 2 and HCU connector at Red/Yellow wire terminal. Also check between breakout box pin No. 20 and HCU Red/Yellow wire terminal. If readings are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If readings are greater than 5 ohms, repair Red/Yellow wire. Go to step 5) . - Check Pump Motor Power Supply Circuit For Open
Measure resistance between breakout box pin No. 30 and HCU connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow wire) of HCU harness connector. If reading is less than 5 ohms, replace ABCM. Go to next step. If reading is greater than 5 ohms, repair Yellow wire. Go to next step. - Verify Repair
Restore all disconnected components. Perform DRIVE CYCLE TEST . Check for DTCs. If SYSTEM PASS is obtained, repair is complete. If SYSTEM PASS is not obtained and DTC C1096 exists, go to step 1) . If different DTCs exist, see DTC TEST INDEX table.
