Cooling Fan Runs Continuously
- Turn ignition off. On A/T models, disconnect low cooling fan relay. On M/T models, disconnect fan relay. On models with A/C, disconnect A/C relay connector. On all models, disconnect PCM connectors. Measure resistance between ground and Black/Green wire at relay connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace suspect fan relay.
- On A/T models, disconnect A/C pressure cut-off switch connector. On all models, disconnect cooling fan switch connector(s). On one-terminal cooling fan switches, measure resistance between wire terminal and ground. On 2-terminal cooling fan switches, measure resistance between switch terminals. On all switches, if resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, replace suspect fan switch. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, locate and repair short in Black/Green wire (M/T models) or go to next step (A/T models).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect high speed fan switch connector. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire of high speed switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, locate and repair open in Black wire.
- Measure resistance between ground and Black/Green wire at high speed fan switch connector. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, locate and repair short to ground in Black/Green wire.
- Measure resistance between Black/Green wire at high speed fan switch connector and Black wire at A/C pressure cut-off switch. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, replace A/C pressure cut-off switch. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, no problem is indicated at this time. Check A/C system performance.
