Master Switch (Escort & Tracer)

  1. To check for short(s) to ground, with key OFF, disconnect power window master switch. With ohmmeter, measure resistance between main switch connector (all wires except Black and Black/White) and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms in any case, replace power window master switch. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms in any circuit, inspect and repair questionable circuit for short to ground. See POWER WINDOW MAIN SWITCH CIRCUITS (ESCORT & TRACER) table. See Figure .
  2. To check for ground continuity, turn ignition off. Disconnect power window main switch. With an ohmmeter, measure resistance between Black wire at main switch and ground. If the resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace power window main switch. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire from switch to ground.
