Catalytic Converter

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery terminal.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
3. Remove the left front wheel and tire. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
4. Remove the crossunder pipe. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
5. Remove the turbocharger heat shield. Refer to TURBOCHARGER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
6. Remove the upstream oxygen sensor. Refer to FRONT OXYGEN SENSOR TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER .
7. Remove the inner cowl panel cover. Refer to COVER, COWL PANEL, INNER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , .
8. Remove the front bumper. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

9. Remove the catalytic converter mounting brackets (1b) to engine block nuts (1a).

10. Loosen the catalytic converter to turbocharger clamp (1).

11. Remove the catalytic converter (1).
12. If necessary, remove the bolts (2a) and remove the mounting brackets (2b).

INSTALLATION

1. If removed, install the catalytic converter support brackets and tighten the bolts to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
2. If removed, position the clamp on the turbocharger.

3. Install a NEW  metal gasket in the clamps groove by aligning the tabs (1) shown in the figure.
4. Position the catalytic converter in place, complete with brackets.
5. Tighten the catalytic converter to turbocharger clamp to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
6. Install the catalytic converter mounting brackets to engine block nuts and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
7. Install the front bumper. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
8. Install the inner cowl panel cover. Refer to COVER, COWL PANEL, INNER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , .
9. Install the upstream oxygen sensor. Refer to FRONT OXYGEN SENSOR TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER .
10. Install the turbocharger heat shield. Refer to TURBOCHARGER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
11. Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
12. Install the left front wheel and tire. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
13. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
14. Connect the negative battery terminal.
