Test 4: Intermittent DTCS

  1. Inspect ground connections on back of engine. Repair as necessary. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM harness connector. Inspect terminals No. 53 and 57 (ground circuits) and terminal No. 56 (battery feed). Repair as necessary.
  2. Inspect power supply circuit to transmission control relay. Repair as necessary. Inspect TCM harness connector terminal No. 11 (fused ignition switch output circuit). If all connections are okay, see INTERMITTENT DTC TCM TERMINAL PIN INSPECTION TABLE . Inspect TCM terminal pins and repair as necessary.
  3. If procedures in steps 1) and 2) fail to diagnose problem, erase DTCs using scan tool, following scan tool manufacturer's instructions. Set reset counter equal to zero. Road test vehicle. If transmission is still not functioning properly, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING in AUTO TRANS OVERHAUL - 42LE article.
