Preliminary Inspection

  1. Verify customer complaint by operating power seats. If POWER SEATS circuit breaker (30-amp) opens whenever power seat switch is operated, check circuits for a short to ground. Inspect for faulty, loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harness and/or switch.
  2. Check for broken or partially broken wire inside of insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded. Move harness around while making continuity/voltage checks. A change in readings will indicate location of problem.
  3. Visually inspect for obvious sign of mechanical and electrical damage. Repair as necessary. Ensure components are properly adjusted. Inspect mechanical components for smooth operation. Free up or repair as necessary.
  4. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. Repair as necessary. If problem is not found, go to POWER SEATS SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
