Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, record DTC Failure Records, then clear DTCs. Select TCC Brake Switch on scan tool. Disconnect brake switch harness connector. Using a test light connected to ground, connect test light to brake switch harness connector terminal "D" (Brown wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 4.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between brake switch harness connector terminals. Observe scan tool. If TCC brake switch status on scan tool changes from OPEN to CLOSED, go to step 7. If TCC brake switch status on scan tool does not change from OPEN to CLOSED, go to step 9.
- Turn ignition off. On "L" and "M" Series, check BRAKE fuse in passenger compartment fuse block. On "S" and "T" Series, check ABS fuse in passenger compartment fuse block. If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 8.
- Check for short to ground in Brown wire between brake switch and fuse block. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 11. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Check for short to ground in Purple wire between brake switch and PCM. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 11. If circuit is okay, go to step 10.
- Turn ignition off. Replace brake switch. After replacing switch, go to step 11.
- Repair open in Brown wire between brake switch and fuse block. After repairs, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition off. Check for open in Purple wire between brake switch and fuse block. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 11. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Verify repairs. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, select DTC and clear DTCs. Apply and release brake pedal. Verify that TCC Brake Switch status indicates CLOSED (12 volts) for 2 seconds. Using scan tool, select Specific DTC and enter this DTC. If DTC test runs and passes, system is okay. If DTC resets, go to step 1.
CAUTION:
Disable SIR system when performing service on or near the SIR components or SIR wiring. Failure to follow correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
