Battery Undercharged Or Overcharged (Charging System)

  1. Disconnect generator connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage at harness connector terminal "L" (Brown wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 4).
  2. Check voltage at BAT terminal of generator. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 6).
  3. Reconnect generator connector. Start engine and run at 2000 RPM. Ensure all accessories are off. Check battery voltage. If voltage is 13-16 volts, go to step 7). If voltage is not 13-16 volts, go to step 8).
  4. Using voltmeter, backprobe instrument panel connector terminal No. 19 (Brown wire). If battery voltage exists, go to step 9). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  5. Using voltmeter, backprobe instrument panel connector terminal No. 22 (Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, go to step 10). If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 11).
  6. Repair open in Black/Red wire between fusible link and generator BATT terminal. Retest system.
  7. Load test battery. Recharge or replace as needed. Retest system.
  8. Bench test generator. Replace as needed. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If generator is okay, go to step 7).
  9. Repair open in Brown wire between generator and instrument panel connector terminal No. 25. Retest system.
  10. Check charge indicator light bulb. Replace as needed. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Retest system.
  11. Repair open in Pink wire between fuse block and instrument panel connector terminal. Retest system.
