Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, check A/C pressure sensor voltage. If voltage is less than .1 volt, go to step 5). If voltage is .1 volt or more, go to next step.
  3. If A/C pressure sensor voltage is more than 4.8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not more than 4.8 volts, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
  4. Observe A/C pressure sensor voltage on scan tool, and disconnect pressure sensor connector. If voltage is about zero volts, go to step 12). If voltage is more than zero volts, so to step 11).
  5. Disconnect A/C pressure sensor connector. Connect a jumper wire between signal circuit and 5-volt reference circuit terminals at A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to step 16). If voltage is not about 5 volts, go to next step.
  6. Using DVOM, measure voltage sensor ground circuit and 5-volt reference "B" circuit terminals at A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to step 9). If voltage is not about 5 volts, go to next step.
  7. Check for poor 5-volt reference "B" circuit terminal connection at PCM. If a poor connection exists, go to step 17). If connection is okay, go to next step.
  8. Check for an open or faulty splice in 5-volt reference "B" circuit. If an open or faulty splice exists, go to step 18). If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  9. Check for poor A/C pressure signal circuit terminal connection at PCM. If a poor connection exists, go to step 17). If connection is okay, go to next step.
  10. Check for an open or short to ground in A/C pressure signal circuit between PCM and A/C pressure sensor. If an open or short to ground exists, go to step 18). If circuit is okay, go to step 20).
  11. Check for short to voltage in A/C pressure signal circuit between PCM and A/C pressure sensor. If a short to voltage exists, go to step 18). If circuit is okay, go to step 20).
  12. Check for short to voltage in 5-volt reference "B" circuit between PCM and A/C pressure sensor. Repair as necessary. After repair is completed, go to step 21). If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  13. Check for poor A/C pressure sensor ground circuit terminal connection at PCM. If a poor connection exists, go to step 17). If connection is okay, go to next step.
  14. Check for poor sensor ground circuit terminal connection at A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If a poor connection exists, go to step 17). If connection is okay, go to next step.
  15. Check for an open or faulty splice in sensor ground circuit. If an open or faulty splice exists, go to step 18). If circuit is okay, go to next step. 16) Check for poor signal circuit or 5-volt reference circuit terminal connection at A/C pressure sensor harness connector. If a poor connection exists, go to next step. If connection is okay, go to step 19).
  16. Repair wiring, connector or terminal as necessary. After repair is completed, go to step 21).
  17. Locate and repair open or short circuit in wiring harness as necessary. After repair is completed, go to step 21).
  18. Replace defective A/C pressure sensor. After repair is completed, go to step 21).
  19. Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After repair is completed, go to next step.
  20. Using scan tool, select CLEAR INFO or CLEAR DTCS function to clear DTCs. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, check A/C pressure sensor voltage. If voltage is .1-4.8 volts, repair is complete. If voltage is not .1-4.8 volts, repeat step 2).
