Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, observe CRUISE ENGAGED display. If reading indicates yes, go to next step. If reading does not indicate yes, go to step 5).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and cruise status circuit terminal at PCM connector. If voltage is greater than 7 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 7 volts or less, go to step 9).
- Check cruise status circuit for poor terminal connection at PCM. Repair as necessary. After repair is completed, go to step 14). If connection is okay, go to step 12).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect SMCC module. Turn ignition on. With test light connected to positive battery terminal, probe cruise inhibit circuit terminal at SMCC module harness connector. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, go to step 7).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Observe test light. With test light connected to positive battery terminal, probe cruise inhibit circuit terminal at PCM connector. If test light is on, go to step 13). If test light is off, go to step 12).
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect SMCC module connector. Disconnect PCM connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and cruise status circuit terminal at PCM connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 11).
- Using scan tool, select CLEAR INFO or CLEAR DTCS function to clear DTC P1554. Start engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes. Check for DTCs. If DTC P1554 is set, go to step 12). If DTC P1554 is not set, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
- Check for an open or short to ground in cruise status circuit. Repair as necessary. After repair is completed, go to step 14). If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Check cruise status circuit for poor connection at SMCC module harness connector. Check for an open inhibit circuit. Repair as necessary. After repair is completed, go to step 14) If circuits are okay, go to next step.
- Replace SMCC module. After repair is completed, go to step 14).
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After repair is completed, go to step 14).
- Locate and repair short to ground in cruise inhibit circuit. After repair is completed, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select CLEAR INFO or CLEAR DTCS function to clear DTC P1554. Start engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes. Check for DTCs. If DTC P1554 is set, repeat step 2). If DTC P1554 is not set, repair is complete.
