61 11 ... Replacing wiring harness at rear
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove luggage compartment floor trim panel. Refer to 51 47 101 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR TRIM PANEL .
- Disconnect battery negative lead. Refer to 12 00 ... Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery .
- Remove panel for luggage compartment partition. Refer to 51 47 140 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING PANEL FOR TRUNK SEPARATING WALL .
- Remove luggage compartment trim on side panel. Refer to 51 47 210 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRUNK TRIM PANEL ON LEFT SIDE PANEL .
- Remove luggage compartment trim on side panel on right. Refer to 51 47 220 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRUNK TRIM PANEL ON RIGHT SIDE PANEL .
- Remove partition, retaining bracket and wheel arch liner. Refer to 16 11 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING PARTITION WALL, RETAINING BRACKET AND WHEEL ARCH TRIM .
- Remove rear bumper complete with lower trim panel. Refer to 51 12 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE REAR BUMPER .
Remove bumper holder on left and right:
Unlock plug connection (1) and remove in direction of arrow.
Release screws (2) and (3).
Remove bumper holder (4).
Removal
Subsequent removal of the wiring harness is described separately from installation.
Cut through main wiring harness (1) as illustrated with sufficient excess length.
Detach cut-off main wiring harness from luggage compartment and remove.
Installation
Installation of the wiring harness is described separately from removal.

Notes on assignment of repair connector:
Refer to DIS under Component and signal information / plug, fan and soldered connectors / connectors from X1... / X18989B.
Procedure:
- Fit all cut leads of main wiring harness with stop parts.
- Pin in leads in accordance with schematic in DIS.
- Strip insulation from cable.
- Crimp stop parts. Refer to 61 13 ... Crimping Micro Power Quadlock contacts (MPQ) and 61 13 ... Crimping Micro Quadlock System contacts (MQS) .
- Connect precrimped leads to corresponding plugs (refer to schematic).
- Follow notes and instructions on installing/removing multiple connector systems. Refer to 61 13 ... Opening plug housings and removing contacts of different plug systems .
- Replace cable ties that have been cut open.
Stick foam pad (1) as illustrated to repair connector (3).
Secure repair connector (3) using cable tie (2) from repair kit.
