Mass Airflow Sensor (With ECM "A")
- Ensure circuit breaker is okay. Disconnect Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor connector. See ELECTRICAL COMPONENT LOCATIONS table at beginning of article. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between MAF sensor connector terminals No. 2 and 3. See Figure . If battery voltage is not present, check for faulty wiring.
- If battery voltage is present, check wiring between MAF sensor and ECM. If wiring is okay, push back protective boot on MAF sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between MAF sensor connector terminals No. 2 and 4.
- If 1.0-7.5 volts is not present, replace MAF sensor. If 1.0-7.5 volts is present, measure voltage between terminals No. 1 and 2. If 0.3-1.1 volts is not present, replace MAF sensor. If 0.3-1.1 volts is present, start engine.
- Turn off all electrical accessories. Ensure radiator cooling fan is not running. Vary engine speed between idle and 4000 RPM while measuring voltage between terminals No. 1 and 2. If 1.5-3.4 volts is present, system is okay. If 1.5-3.4 volts is not present, replace MAF sensor.
