Engine Speed Sensor

  1. Raise left front wheel off of ground. Read individual measuring values in channels 15. See READ INDIVIDUAL MEASURING VALUES MODE in the TESTS W/CODES article. With ignition on, turn left front wheel by hand and observe engine RPM displayed on Scan tester (VAG 1551).
  2. If RPMs are displayed, engine speed sensor is okay. If RPMs are not displayed, check for faulty wiring. If wiring is okay, replace ECU. See ELECTRICAL COMPONENT LOCATIONS  table.
