Camshaft Removal and Installation: Installation

Front 

  1. Front Camshaft - Install

    1. Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the lip of a new camshaft oil seal (A).

    2. Clean and dry the camshaft oil seal housing.

    3. Gently tap the new camshaft oil seal squarely into the cylinder head to the specified installed height.

    4. Measure the distance between the cylinder head surface (B) and the camshaft oil seal.

    5. Insert the camshaft (C) into the cylinder head, then install the camshaft thrust cover (D). Always use a new O-ring (E). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.

    6. Clean the excess oil off the camshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.

    7. Install the dowel pin (F).

    Oil Seal Installed Height: 
    0.5-1.5 mm (0.020-0.059 in)
  2. Front Rocker Arm Assembly - Install 
  3. Front Camshaft Pulley and Back Cover - Install 
    NOTE: Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt.
  4. Timing Belt - Install
  5. Valve Clearance - Adjust
  6. Front Cylinder head Cover - Install
  7. EGR Valve Stud Bolt - Install

    1. Install the EGR valve stud bolt.
  8. EGR Valve - Install 
  9. Upper Radiator Hose - Connect (Water Passage Side) - Refer to: Water Passage Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020) or Water Passage Removal and Installation (2014 2015) 
  10. Battery - Install - Refer to: Battery Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020) or Battery Removal and Installation (2014 2015)
  11. Engine Coolant - Refill/Air Bleed
  12. CKP Pattern - Clear/Learn

    Rear 

  13. Rear Camshaft - Install

    1. Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the lip of a new camshaft oil seal (A).

    2. Gently tap the new camshaft oil seal squarely into the cylinder head to the specified installed height.

    3. Clean and dry the camshaft oil seal housing.

    4. Measure the distance between the cylinder head surface (B) and the camshaft oil seal.

    5. Insert the camshaft (C) into the cylinder head, then install the high pressure fuel pump housing (D). Always use new O-rings (E). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.

    6. Clean the excess oil off the camshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.

    7. Install the dowel pin (F).

    Oil Seal Installed Height: 
    0.5-1.5 mm (0.020-0.059 in)
  14. Rear Rocker Arm Assembly - Install 
  15. Rear Camshaft Pulley and Back Cover - Install 
    NOTE: Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt.
  16. Timing Belt - Install
  17. Valve Clearance - Adjust
  18. Rear Cylinder head Cover - Install
  19. Harness Holder - Install

    1. Install the harness holders (A).
  20. Cylinder Head External Item - Install

    1. Connect the heater hoses (A) and the water bypass hose (B).

    2. Install the EVAP canister purge joint bracket (A).

    3. Install the EVAP canister purge joint (A).
  21. High Pressure Fuel Pump - Install
  22. Intake Manifold and Intake Manifold Base - Remove 
  23. Air Cleaner - Install 
  24. Fuel Leak - Inspect
    1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel rail will be pressurized. Repeat this two or three times, then check for fuel leakage.
  25. Engine Coolant - Refill/Air Bleed
  26. CKP Pattern - Clear/Learn
